- How is a discharge and a layoff similar? How are they different?
- A discharge ends employment due to innapropriate behavior, a layoff is a temporary or permament reduction in number of employees
- When the economy is shrinking, people have less money and unemployment goes up
- Awesome, another question, How do economic cycles affect job opportunities?
- Changes in the economy happen when businesses expand, people have more money and jobs are being created
- Cool, can you name four broad categories of HR activities?
- HR activities include Planning/Staffing, Performance management, Compenation/Benefits, and Employee Relations

- Thanks, last question what is the difference between salary.wages and benefits
- Salary/wages are direct paymenys of money to employees for work. Benefits are compensation in other ways, not direct payment
