- The two unlicensed men build the first-ever European post along the Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior.

- The men come into contact with the First Nations of the Land. They don't have any significant disputes, and the First Nations explain the trading companies north and west of Hudson Bay to Groseilliers and Raddison.
- We have a great plan we want to present to you
- Such a great plan! My nephew will help you with the finances
- Grosseillier and Radisson return to Montreal with loads of furs and a plan. They wanted to set up a new trading post by Hudson's Bay. This way, they could transport furs to Europe from the Northwest at less cost.
- Upon arrival, they were both fined, and Groseillier was put in jail. All their furs were confiscated. This was because they traded without a license which was considered a crime.
- To get help, they went to present their plan to the British. King Charles, the ruler at the time, agreed and his nephew, Prince Rupert of the Rhine, agreed to help organize their finances for the trip.
