  • THE GREAT DEPRESSION
  • After the first world war, Germany were forced to sign The Treaty of Versailles between them and the winning countries. This meant that they had to pay hefty reparations to the successful countries, have restrictions on their airforce, army, and navy, and lose majority of their territories in Europe.
  • THE FALL OF THE WEIMAR REPUBLIC
  • On the 8th and 9th of November 1923, Hitler and 2,000 Nazis attempted to seize power of the German government. This attempt was unsuccesful- Hitler was arrested and sentenced to 5 years in prison. He ended up only serving 9 months in which he wrote his autobiography 'Mein Kempf', he gained publicity during his 24-day trial, and he realised to gain power he must do it legally and politcally.
  • CONTROL OF CHILDREN
  • The Wall Street Crash of 1929 cause worldwide unemployment, homelessness, starvation, decrease in construction, agricultural and manufacturing industries and decline in exports- the great depression.
  • PROPAGANDA
  • They lost a large amount of support from the German population. They were struggling due to the Treaty of Versailles and The Great Depression. They lost working-class support so President Hinenberg made Adolf Hitler Chancellor. He soon passed away and Hitler essentially dubbed himself as the father of Germany, as well as making himself both the president and chancellor. This is when Nazism became the leading idealogy in Germany.
  • Once Hitler was in control, he took several measures to ensure the youth of Germany obeyed him and his Nazi idealogy. Youth groups were created to indoctrinate kids into Nazism and train them to be soldiers or mothers. The Nazis controlled what was learnt in schools at this time.
  • Media and art used to spread Nazi propaganda. Whole agenda was led by a trusted associate of Hitler, Josef Goebbels.
