Storyboard Text

  • Hi, my name is Jacob and I am the narrator for today's story. Today we will be looking into the history of cells. Our story begins when Zacharias Janssen discovered the microscope in 1650. All scientists were eager to get their hands on it which caused the microscope to make its way around the world.
  • come get your microscope!!
  • Anton von Leeuwenhoek saw Janssen's invention and was eager to make his own microscope. Using the plaque from his own teeth, he discovered bacteria and thought to mail his findings to Robert Hooke who lived across the world
  • wow I can't believe what I am seeing. This white stuff that came off of my teeth seems to be living. I can't wait to send my findings to my friend Robert Hooke
  • Upon receiving Leeuwenhoek's invention Hooke does more research on Leeuwenhoek's invention and after looking at cork under the microscope, discovered the idea of cells
  • Leeuwenhoek's discovery is amazing, I wonder what I will see if I look at cork underneath it
  • Years after Robert Hooke completed his discovery of the cell, Isaac Newton became a well known scientist. Hearing about Newton's knew discovery, Hooke created tension between the two scientists. This even resulted in Hooke's life work and even portrait being hidden away by Newton after Hooke passed away.
  • You stole my work and didn't give credit. You will pay!
  • No I did not! You will regret this
  • your theory on plants and mine about animals mean that everything is made up of cells but cells must also be made of other cells
  • I agree that plants are made up of cells but you are wrong and cells just crystallize
  • Both Theodor Schwann and Mathias Schliedon discovered that cells came from other cells. Since both of these scientists disagreed on a few aspects of the theory, two more scientists were used to solidify the theory.
  • cell theory
  • Although you stole my research to prove it, I agree
  • I agree with Schwann. Cells are made from other cells
  • 1. All organisms are made up at least one cell
  • 2. The cell is the basic unit of structure
  • 3. All cells come from preexisting cells
  • So you see, the history of the cell theory is tied to all sorts of interesting concepts and people. The theory allows us to understand the lives of living things and provides us with the knowledge to keep the world rolling forward.
