Storyboard Text

  • This is the Indian Caste system. Brahmins were at the top of the Caste system and Dalits were at the bottom.
  • Dalits

  • It is believed in the Indian Caste system that a higher caste can always give something to a lower class, however, a lower class can not do the same with an higher class. 
  • Priests were highly regarded in the Indian caste system which is why they were half of the Brahmins. Their religious role helped them become the top of the system.
  • Some of the other Brahmins were academics who were also very praised and looked up to in India. Which is why academics quickly also became Brahmins along with priests.
  • In the Indian caste system, the Kshatriyas consisted of both warriors and kings. The kshatriya class were direct descendants of the warriors and kings that had conquered and ruled India.
  • The Vaisyas are considered the middle class of the Indian caste system. In the Vaisyas caste, it includes Merchants, Craftsmen, Land Owners, and Skilled Workers.
  • The fourth caste in the Indian caste system is the Sudra. Sudra's are considered the lower class citizens and are towards the bottom of the pyramid. The Sudra caste consists of farmworkers, unskilled workers, and servants.
  • The worst and final caste is Dalits or also known as the untouchables. The untouchables were given menial degrading work that no others would do. This included street sweeping, cleaning up human and animal waste, and deal with dead bodies.
