- Mom luby, an elderly woman, cares for two children Elijah and Arlethia/puddin, ever since their mother passed away.
- scene 4
- Mom luby is unable to support the children school wise, so she brings Elijah and puddin with her to the welfare office to seek help from the state.
- scene 5
- Mom luby lies, saying that she is the mother of the two children, in order to be eligible for state aid, luckily the lady behind the desk did not look at her.
- scene 6
- A couple minutes after Mom luby and the children get back home, there is a knock at the door, Mom luby sends Elijah to look who it is, when Elijah opens the door he sees a little brown skinned lady with straightened hair and glasses , wearing a black high top shoes and was dressed all in dark blue. She introduces herself as Miss Rushmore from the Department of Child Welfare, Bureau of Family Assistance and shortly after asks for Mom Luby.
- Miss Rushmore sits on the edge of mom lubys chair and starts pulling papers out of her leather envelope, then she starts asking mom luby questions concerning the form she left at the office. later she tells mom luby that she needs to revisit the Welfare office to complete more forms, shortly after mom luby tells the lady how busy she is and how much work she does in different areas, letting the lady know that she has no time to fill out the many forms.
- Mom luby and Miss Rushmore continues the interview in the back room, Unfortunately at the end of the interview Miss Rushmore tells Mom Luby that she is not qualified for state aid. Miss Rushmore does further inquiry on Mom lubys work ability, because she is quite surprised at the fact that mom luby is able to get more done in two hours than she is able to do in two years.
