Storyboard Text

  • Captain John Smith started to write in 1608 and the line that represents the American Dream is "The nation and its people could only flourish". This represents the American Dream for people because he is known to be a hero and this is the first known part of history regarding the American Dream.
  • The American Dream is an opportunity, a chance for all of us to achieve a better future than what we could've originally gotten.
  • In 1651, William Bradford wrote something named Plymouth Plantation and the American Dream that can be found from that story is Religious Freedom as Bradford and his group travelled to America to find more freedom for their Religion.
  • In 1773, a poem was written by Phillis Wheatley named "To the Right Honorable William, Earl of Dartmouth" and that poem was about freedom and their fight for freedom which I especially found the method that they used to approach that freedom to be inspiring.
  • In August 20, 1810, the Speech of Tecumseh was written and shown which is about the Native Americans uniting with the settlers and the reason why they have a good definition of The American Dream because when wanting to unite two opposing sides together shows that they want to make their land a better place.
  • The Klondike Gold Rush (or the California Gold Rush) was a gold rush that started on January 24, 1848 and when gold was found in California, it changed the entire state forever. Because of that event, California was considered the 31st state in 1850, California became a place for immigrants and the amount of gold both helped and worsen a ton of lives.
  • This helps with my definition of The American Dream because of how the gold can represent the opportunities that can be found with this event and how if you had the gold then the possibilities are endless.
  • In 1987, one of the more recent examples that influenced my definition of the American Dream because of her stories that represent the problem that immigrants had to experience. She wrote a story called Fish Cheeks and it was about how she had "broken language" and what she had to experience because of such.
