- because of the failing in 1831 and 1848 the mantel now fell on Emanual II to unify Italian states.
- because of a smart alliance with France, suggested by Cavour they succeeded in defeating the Austrian forces in 1859
- many soldiers joined the leadership of Giuseppe Garibaldi
- the soldiers marched to the king of two Sicilles and succeeded in winning the support of the local people to suppress the Spanish rulers
- In 1861, Victor Emanual II was proclaimed the emperor of Unified of Italy.
