- Caleb drowns in a river, which was a five. Then, the new baby Caleb is at the Naming Ceremony. Gabe and Jonas's father also attend the ceremony.

- Jonas is patiently waiting to receive his assignment. Then it is time for him to go up on stage, but Chief Elder skips him. He starts to question himself and wonder if he was wrong. He gets assigned as The Receiver of Memory.

- Then he is told that he has not been chosen, but he has been selected. Jonas is not sure what to think of it.
- Jonas realizes there is lot of physical pain being the Receiver of Memory. He is very worried and does not want to have his job anymore.

- Jonas and Fiona go to building behind The House of Old. He gets many rules and instructions he must follow, one of them being lying.
