- French fur traders went to SC 30 years before the French and Indian War. The British did not like this and tried to prevent the Cherokee from trading with the French.
- They thought that they were in charge of the Indians, but the Indian thought that they were on equal terms with the British.
- Attack!
- The peace between the two groups lasted 30 years and then broke when the war started. All the Cherokee expected was protection, but the British did not provide it. The Cherokee did like the British better, but when the French attacked with their allies, the British did not protect them.
- The Cherokee felt cheated by the British so they took some horses that belonged to the settlers. The British attacked them and then the Cherokee retaliated and it went from there. The royal governor tried to take control of the Cherokee and ended up taking the Cherokees representatives as hostages.
- This all led to the Cherokee war that lasted from 1758-1761
- This war created many causalities and and caused many deaths to the Cherokee. The treaty that ended the war made the Cherokee give up a lot of their land. This created a boundary that separated South Carolina and the Cherokee's properties.
