- In 1607, a group of Merchants traveled to Virginia to start a new colony. This colony was located on a swampy peninsula. They settled here because they thought that it would be easy to defend themselves from American Indians and Powhatan.
- Colony Difficulties
- Jamestown was colonized because a group of merchants wanted to create a money-making colony. They also wanted to find valuables such as gold and timber so that they could ship those materials back to there homeland.
- Jamestown form of government was an assembly of elected people called the House of Burgesses. This assembly was formed in 1619.
- Although many of the settlers had useful skills, none of them were educated in farming. None of them were willing to learn how to farm either. This causes for them not to have access to a major food source.
