  • this man sufferers from a mental illness known as depression. He hates suffering from this illness so he decided that he wanted to change, so he saw someone.
  • he has been in this mental state his entire life. When he walks he's sad, when he eats he's sad, whenever he does something he's sad. So what is depression you might ask? well thats what i''m here to talk to you about.
  • Well, depression is a state of extreme sadness, symptoms including not wanting to eat food, complete loss of motivation, no social capabilities, feeling that everything is too hard and many other things. and depression can not only affect you, but the people around you like your friends and family too.
  • Your friends will start to worry for you, as well as your family. Your teachers could get mad at you for not doing work because they don't understand how your feeling. these are only two of many reasons how mental illness can affect those around you. Now ill talk about how people, including this man, can get the feeling that they no longer want to have a mental illness. A stigma.
  • A stigma is the mark of disgrace associated with a certain quality of someone that they wish to change. You can also feel this about yourself, which is known as a self-stigma. two examples from this occurring would be 1: the things people say to you, causing you to think you want to feel better, which is good. Another example is an example from a self-stigma and that is the feeling that you don't want to feel the way you do, so you try to change or seek help. that is what happened to this man at the beginning of this story.
  • Now, I would like to talk to you about the importance of family when in such a horrible mental state. Family, for most people, are the only people in the world that they can trust to talk about their feelings with. Family will help you through your rough times, do as much as they can to cheer you up, and many other things to help you. This man has talked to his family and he's feeling so much better.
