  • 7- The two types of population growth are the exponential growth and the logistic growth.
  • 9- An exponential growth occurs when a population size increases drastically over time due to an abundant amount of resources. As you can see behind me, this growth can be represented on a graph as a J-shaped curve.
  • 8- Huh? Exponential? Logistic? What does that mean?
  • 10- And why is it shaped like a J?
  • 11- That is because the growth rate is increasing in that population, and in some cases, the population overshoots, and reaches over the carrying capacity limit. When that happens, the growth rate slightly decreases due to factors like predation, competition, parasitism, and diseases. After that, it continues to fluctuate until it levels off.
  • 12- Interesting...
  • 13- The logistic growth, however, occurs when a population begins with slow growth, followed by a brief exponential growth, and then slow growth once again. This drastic change is due to a depletion of resources. Can any of you guess the shape of this growth on a graph?
  • 15- Sure thing Melody, go ahead.
  • 14- Me, me, me!
  • 16- The graph probably looks like a line that curves to the top then the bottom, perhaps an S-looking shape.
  • 17- That is exactly right! The graph represents an S-shape.
  • RRINGGGG
  • 18- Alright, class, there goes the bell. For your assignment today, you have to watch the assigned video to learn more about our topic. See you tomorrow!
  • 19- Thank you, see you tomorrow.
  • 20- Thank you.
