  • Hi I'm Martin Luther (born November 10th 1483) a German monk and professor who grew up in a town called Eisleben. I then left to the town of Wittenburg where I first initiated the Protestant Reformation. Which spread all throughout Europe.
  • The Church should not hold authority over us
  • God is the only one who can free your sins
  • In the 16th century, the Catholic Church started selling indulgences to raise money to rebuild the Basilica and allow people to use it to descend to heaven, freeing from their sins. I believed this was not right.
  • Who would ever go against the church?
  • I will not back down, this is not right
  • October 31st, 1517, I nailed what is known today the '95 Theses' on the door of Wittenburgs Church. This expressed how I felt about the wrong-doing of selling indulgences to the public.
  • We have gained power!
  • I believed the church should not hold authority over individuals lives. My words and actions began spreading throughout Europe, becoming widely popular eventually beginning the Protestant Reformation.
  • When I came against members of the Holy Roman Empire in the 'Diet of Worms,' I was given the choice to revoke my claims or risk excommunication. Facing the option of death and possibly heresy. Although, I stuck by my claims.
  • The Catholic Church started losing power and control amongst the community. Nobles and rulers attempted gaining status achieving their goal. However, peasants tried doing also through the time of the reformation to gain freedom and status but failed. I was a reformer until my death on the 18th of February, 1546, in my home town.
