  • Follow me into a colder area so we can discuss the colder weather!
  • It sure is cold in Canada, this must be where the low pressure which means the air sinks and is colder because the water is coming from the poles! But how might we know this? Thanks to the tools Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, and CTD, we can determine the oceanic currents speeds, direction, the temp, and even the depth of the currents!
  • Since it is colder here that most likely means we are in the cold side of the Global Conveyor Belt. The convery really dictates the climate in an area like the Antarctic current is cold because the water is coming from the poles, the Florida current is warm because the water is coming from the equator, and the North Pacific current is also warm because the water is also coming from the equator. And something to keep in mind, is that more salinity in water causes the water to become more dense and sink, but water with less will rise. Wind moves from the high pressure areas to the lower pressure areas, and not the other way around. Temperaturecan also play a role in the waters mass because colder waters mass decreases while warm water increases.
