Storyboard Text

  • Two of the ballerinas on stage wince from their intelligence handicaps.
  • That one was a doozy, wasn't it?
  • If you see this boy, do not - I repeat, do not - try to reason with him.
  • A ballerina reads for the stuttering announcer. She must have been very pretty, because her mask was hideous
  • A police photograph of Harrison Bergeron was flashed on the screen-upside down, then sideways, upside down again, then right side up.
  • Harrison and the ballerina dance together with no handicaps.
  • In his short story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut uses satirical scenes such as these to express the importance of individuality. Even in this society where everyone has been forced into complete equality, people can still tell who is stronger, who is smarter, or who is prettier based on the handicaps they are given. This just goes to show that everyone's unique gifts are important and that forcing everyone to hide their talents for the sake of those who lack those talents will only cause pain.
