- Hello Mrs. Smith, your puppy, Mr. Wiggles, is doing great and he’s ready to go home.
- Jennifer, could you please file Mrs. Smith’s paperwork with the rest of the files.
- A client at Jennifer’s co-op placement has just picked up her puppy and Jennifer’s supervisor has asked her to file the paperwork.
- While filing the paperwork Jennifer notices the client lives near her and she becomes interested in going to the clients house to visit her puppy.
- Wow! I didn’t know Mrs. Smith lives on my street, I should stop by sometime to see Mr. Wiggles.

- Well a lady named Mrs. Smith came into my co-op placement the other day and she has the cutest dog and I read her files and found out she lives right down the road from me. We should go see her dog!
- Hey guess what!
- Jennifer asks her friend from school to come to the clients house with her to see the puppy.
- What’s up Jennifer?
- Jennifer breaks confidentiality by not only sharing Mrs. Smith’s personal information, but also by using this information inappropriately by showing up to her house.
- There’s Mr. Wiggles isn’t he just adorable.
- He is cute, but he would be even cuter as my dog!
- Later that night Jennifer’s friend, using the information she has shared to him, goes to Mrs. Smith’s house and steals her puppy.
- OH NO! Mr. Wiggles is missing!
- Jennifer’s supervisor explains to her that it’s never alright to break confidentiality. No client’s name, address, number, or any other personal information should ever be shared or used for non-business related purposes.
- This is why we need to consider confidentiality, we can’t share a person’s personal information with others, and we can’t use it for non-business uses. I’m sorry, but unfortunately I’m going have to end your co-op placement at this point.
