- The Story of Macbeth
- Once upon a time, there was a man named Macbeth who lived in Scotland.
- Macbeth was a brave soldier, but he was also ambitious.
- One day, Macbeth was told that he would soon be king of Scotland.
- Macbeth wanted to be king, but he wasn't sure what he should do, so he went to his wife.
- Together they came up with a plan to make Macbeth king of Scotland.
- They would give the king a drink that would put him to sleep forever so that a new king would have to be chosen.
- That evening, before supper, Macbeth and his wife put a potion inside the king's drink.
- The potion would make the king stay asleep after he went to bed for the night.
- After being served his drink, the king happily drank it, though it did taste a bit odd.
- The evening went exactly as planned with no one noticing anything wrong.
- The next morning, the guards were shocked to find that the king would not wake up!
- The potion had worked!
- Though they were sad over the loss of their king, everyone realized that they would have to appoint a new king to rule the kingdom. Macbeth quickly argued that he should become king.
- The king had a son named Malcolm who was supposed to become king after his father, but Malcolm had run away after hearing what happened to his father.
- Because of this, Macbeth was eventually chosen to be king.
- Macbeth and his wife were happy that their plan worked, though they were a bit sad about what they had done to the previous king.
- What they didn't know, however, is that Malcolm realized what they had done to his father.
- Malcolm met with a few nobles who were also upset that Macbeth had become king, and told them to keep an eye out for any evidence against Macbeth.
- Meanwhile, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth began feeling more and more guilty about what they had done.
- This guilt even cause Lady Macbeth to start sleep walking.
- One night, a maid noticed that Lady Macbeth was sleep walking.
- Just as she was about to wake her, the maid noticed that Lady Macbeth was talking in her sleep. She was talking about what her and Macbeth had done to the king!
- Shocked by what she heard, the maid decided to do what she thought was right.
- She told one of the nobles spying for Malcolm what she overheard Lady Macbeth saying in her sleep.
- The noble then told Malcolm and the other nobles what he had learned. With this new piece of evidence, Malcolm was able to convince the other nobles that Macbeth was the one who had harmed the king.
- They then decided that they should remove Macbeth as king and replace him with Malcolm.
- After a short fight, Macbeth was replaced by Malcolm and thrown into jail.
- Macbeth now realized that you should never hurt others to help yourself.
