Storyboard Text

  • The story begins with King Theseus and the soon to be Queen Hippolyta, happily awaiting their upcoming marriage.
  • The happy mood is soon interrupted by a lover's quarrel, or more fittingly a quarrel of who should be who's lover. Egeus brings his daughter, Hermia, to King Theseus to ask his permission to kill his daughter should she not marry Demetrius. Lysander, Hermia's true love, argues this but is quickly silenced.
  • Later that day, Hermia and Lysander meet in secret, accompanied by their friend, a girl who loves Demetrius but recieves no love in return. Helena consults Hermia to learn what it is that Demetrius admires about her. However, Helena instead learns of Lysander and Hermia's plan to abandon Athens at night through the woods, in favor of a life together.
  • At the same time, a group of peasant actors plan to put on a play for the newly wed royalty, and decide that they will practice their parts to perfection in the woods that night.
  • The actors head to the forest, ready to attempt the most elegant play they could possibly put on for the new Royalty.
  • Helena informs Demetrius of Hermia and Lysander's plan, so that she might have a night to chase him through the forest and win his heart.
  • Demetrius quickly begins to get aggravated by Helena, who only begs him to love her. Demetrius runs off, and leaves Helena in the dust. The observing King of the Fairies, King Oberon, sees this and prompts his servant, Puck, to amen the situation by way of a magic flower that secretes juice that makes the victim love the first thing they see after application.
  • In pursuit of Demetrius, Helena stumbles upon Lysander and Demetrius in the woods, Lysander being under the influence of the love flower. Upon waking him, he falls madly in love with Helena.
  • Puck also plays a trick on the Queen of the Fairies, Queen Titania under Oberon's direction. Through the love flower, Titania falls hopelessly in love with one of the actors practicing the play, who had been changed to appear as a Donkey by Puck.
  • After being informed by Oberon that Puck had made a mistake in application of the love flower, using it on Lysander and not Demetrius, Puck goes to apply it to the correct Athenian, who sees Helena when he wakes.
  • The four lovers are soon caught in a terrible situation, where Hermia has lost her true love. King Oberon is terribly annoyed, and instructs Puck to remedy the situation with an antidote flower. King Oberon also visits Queen Titania and decides to free her from her forced "relationship."
  • Puck runs the four lovers around the forest, tiring them out. Once asleep, Puck applies the antidote flower to Lysander, restoring his love for Hermia. The actor that had been turned into a donkey is fixed, and brought away from the fairies.
