  • I've finally turned 16 and am on the road to getting a BC Driver's License. First, I'll need to get my "L".
  • I've been preparing for getting my Learner's License by studying the Learn to Drive Smart guide, then taking both the practice Knowledge Test and the Road Signs Practice Test, as well as trying Street Sense, a hazards perceptions app, all available at icbc.com. I'm ready to take the Knowledge Test at an ICBC driver licensing office which I booked online months ago to motivate me to get prepared.
  • icbc.com
  • What I need to bring to the Knowledge Test:Accepted IDA signed and witnessed parent/legal guardian consent form because I'm under 19 (or I could have my parent/legal guardian come with me)$15.00 fee for the knowledge test
  • I did it ~ I passed the Knowledge Test and did the vision screening and got my "L". While I'm a Learner, I'll have to drive with a qualified supervisor with the "L" sign displayed on the back of the vehicle, as well as be sure to follow the restrictions that are printed on my licence. I have printed the ICBC Driver Experience Log and have 2 years to complete a minimum of 60 hours of driving experience. Next I'm going to register to take an ICBC approved GLP driver training course.
  • L
  • For the ICBC-approved GLP driver training course, I will be completing 12 hours of driving the school's vehicle with a qualified instructor, 16 hours of in-class instruction plus 4 hours of online training also done in-class. I plan to take the road test for my "N" after 1 year. Successful completion of the GLP driver training course entitles me to 6 months off the "N" stage provided I am a safe driver with no at-fault crashes, driving violations or prohibitions while in the first 18 months. And bonus, I can also get 2 high school credits for successfully completing a GLP approved course.
  • Welcome! You will have 1 year to complete this approved ICBC Graduate Learning Program.
  • After 1 year of supervised training and staying prohibition-free as a Learner, I will be eligible to take the Class 7 road test to obtain my "N" and become a novice driver. There are study guides available at icbc.com to help me prepare for and pass the Class 7 road test. As a Novice, I will receive a new, reflective green "N" sign to replace my red "L". I will be able to drive on my own, but will be limited to one passenger only and subject to the ICBC graduated licensing restrictions for the novice stage.Having taken an ICBC approved GLP training course, I will be eligible to take the Class 5 road test after 18 consecutive months without any driving prohibitions. By studying for the test and developing the necessary driving skills plus hazard awareness, I am confident I will achieve my ultimate goal of attaining an unrestricted BC driver's license and becoming a safe and responsible driver.
