- You first have to understand the causes of the war. 1. Britain began adding restrictions on the US.2. The British policy of impressement.3. Troubles with Indians in the west. 4. Drive the British out of North America.

- Madison's role in the war of 1812 was that he issued a war proclamation against the British. The US was not ready for war and lost plenty of times. In fact, after many people criticized him. Trade between the two stopped. Eventually, the two negotiated to end the war.
