- Unfortunately Leslie has tested positive for merkel cell carcinoma. We caught it early, so we should be able to treat you with no problem.
- Wow. Will she be okay? Can you tell me more?
- Yes, Merkel cell carcinoma or MCC is an agressive type of skin cancer that usually appears on parts of the body exposed to sun.
- Wow, how would I have even gotten this type of cancer?
- People with fair skin and those over the age of 50 are more likely to get this cancer, so those could be some factors that caused you to get this cancer.
- No, you are not at a higher risk to get this cancer just because your mother has it as it is not passed down.
- Do I have a higher risk of getting this cancer since my mom has it?
- We'll start with a surgery to physically remove all of the cancer. If this does not work we'll move on to radiation to kill the cancer cells.
- Ok, let's kill this cancer!
