- This is Matilda, she is a young and clever girl. But her parents and brother didn't give her the love she deserved. They liked watching television while Matilda liked to read books.
- Instead of being sad, Matilda played tricks on her family for the way they treated her. Once she replaced her father's hair tonic with hair dye.
- At school Matilda had a very sweet teacher named Miss Honey. She recognized Matilda's intelligence and wanted to move her to the highest form.
- Unfortunately the school was run by a terrible women named Miss Trunchbull.
- Miss Trunchbull comes into Miss Honey's class every Thursday and terrorizes the students. Matilda's friend puts a newt in Miss Trunchbull's drink. Miss Trunchbull puts the blame on Matilda.
- Matilda gets so angry that a unique power comes over her and she knocks the glass of water with her mind. Matilda is frightened by the powers she possesses and tells about it to Miss Honey. Later she gets to know about Miss Honey's life story. She also finds out that Miss Trunchbull was Miss Honey's aunt.
- Matilda decides to help Miss Honey. The next week when Miss Trunchbull comes to their class Matilda has the chalk write a ominous message on the the board on its own. Miss Trunchbull believes that it was from Magnus, Miss Honey's late father.
- Miss Trunchbull panics and leaves the house and Cruchem Hall. When Magnus mysteriously appears it is understood that the house belonged to Miss Honey all along. Under the new head, Miss Honey, Matilda was moved to the highest form. Later, Matilda loses her telekinesis powers. She also says that it does not matter to her that her powers are gone.
- When Matilda returns back to her house she is surprised to see her parent and brother packing. She gets to know that they are moving to Spain because her father had been caught for being involved with criminals. Miss Honey offers to adopt Matilda, and Matilda's parents immediately agreed as they never really cared about her.
