- How was the Cell Theory discovered?Presentation
- The Cell Theory was discovered by a few different scientists. Each scientist helped develop all three parts to the cell theory.
- The name "cell" was created by Robert Hooke. The name originated when he looked through a microscope and saw each cell which reminded him of cells in a monastery.
- The man who discovered the nucleus was Robert Brown. When he observed each cell, he found a black dot within each one, which was later named the nucleus.
- The man who discovered that plants are made of cells was Matthias Schleiden. The man who discovered that animals were made of cells was Theodore Schwann.
- Lastly, the man who discovered that all cells come from pre existing cells was Rudolf Virchow. His discovery helped complete the cell theory.
