  • The beginning of the illnesses
  • Henry David began writing nature poetry in the 1840's,he got his ideas from a former friend Ralph Waldo who also wrote poets. In 1845 he stayed on an island for two years called Walden Pond. Which led him to write one of his first poet's "Walden".
  • 1838 The start of a new beginning
  • After high school Henry went to Harvard for college were he studied Greek and Latin as well as German. Thoreau had to take a break from school because of all of his illnesses. Henry finally graduated at 16 in 1837.
  • Poetry and Books
  • Thoreau began getting severely sick during college causing him to take a break.  He had many different illnesses that later causes tuberculosis, Which also later in life caused him to pass on. ( May 6th 1862)
  • Growing up
  • In 1838 John and Henry Thoreau started up their own school, Although the school didn't last long because of Johns illness getting worse, they both enjoyed their time they had together and with the kids.
  •  Henry wrote and published over 50 essays, poems, and books in a 16year time period.some of his most famous writing'swere/are," Walden", and "Civil Disobedience" . His last two essays that were published before he had passed were "The last days of John Brown" and "The succession of forest trees".
  • Thoreau was born as " David Henry Thoreau". He was born in Concord, Massachusetts on July 12, 1817. Henrys dad worked at a pencil factory and his his mom concealed slaves on their way to freedom , and helped the underground railroad. Although he seemed happy all the time he had lost his older brother and younger sister while he was still pretty young.
