- carbon atom starts in the atmosphere
- photo synthesis occurs when the atom finds a plant and it takes CO2 and makes oxygen for living things
- animals then feed on the plants, respiration occurs
- the animal(s) will then die with the plants and will be broken down and decomposition will take place
- the carbon atom is then released again out into the atmosphere and is ready for combustion
- fossil fuels are burned and then are released as carbon dioxide gas, and oceans and other bodies of water soak up carbon from the atmosphere
