As the Ghost of King Hamlet appears before the Watchmen, Bernardo asks The Ghost to speak. It was their first time experiencing this as ghosts don't really appear.

As the ghost just levitatesthere, Bernardo asks if he should strike the ghost, but Horatio says to only do so if the ghost turns hostile towards them.

The ghost disappears for a moment, but later reappears on a different side. Horatio and Bernardo point out the ghost oncethey were able to locate it again

The ghost disappears as the new day comes, and all three of them are shocked by the situation. Marcellus feels as if they shouldn't threaten it as he thinks it might've been wrong and cause the ghost to leave.

Horatio says it looked guilty as if it had business in this world. Soon both Horatio and Marcellus agree that there might've been other factors or legends that could be involved in the ghost's departure.

Horatio tells the watchmen that they should tell Hamlet as he thinks he deserves to know that much after his father's passing.

Barnardo: If you have a voice or can make a sound, speak to me.

Should I strike it?

Yes, if it doesn't stand still.

.

Ghost of King Hamlet appears before them.

It's over here!

There it is!

It's gone. We were wrong to threaten it with violence, since it looks so much like a king.

It was about to say something when the rooster crowed.

And then it acted startled, like a guilty person caught by the law. I've heard that the rooster awakens the god of day with its trumpet like crowing, and makes all wandering ghosts hide.

Yes, it faded when the rooster crowed. People say that before Christmas, the rooster crows all night long so no ghosts wanders in the night.

Yes, I've heard the same thing and sort of believe it. But look, morning is breaking beyond that hill in the east, turning the sky red. Let's tell Hamlet, he deserves that much.

Let's do it, I know where we'll find him this morning.
