  • The British showed up on ships and start the attack on the Americans. It was outnumbered 2,000-15,00 and was Washington's biggest defeat in these battles. About 20% of the soldiers were killed.
  • Battle of Brandywine
  • Washington lead soldiers across the river on Christmas day. They ambushed the hessian's and and captured, killed, and wounded almost 2.000 people. This battle was more of a wake up call than a victory.
  • Battle of Saratoga
  • The Americans pushed the British to retreat and pull a white flag. Washington was the one pursuing the British, his general was killed and he took charge. He rode a big white horse and went up to the front and lead his men into the fight.
  • Summary
  • America lost, about 1,00 men killed and Philadelphia was captured. Washington was trying to prevent this yet failed, this was one of the longest battles. This ended the American winning streak.
  • With this battle we gained help from the French, it was a huge win for the Americans. Washington wasn't there though, he was busy in the battle of Brandywine. This was the turning point of the war.
  • At the beginning the Americans suffered a huge defeat in the battle of Long Island. There were a few American wins and then the battle of Brandywine changed that and they got Philadelphia captured. The battle of Saratoga was a huge win, we got the French to help us and this will be a turning point in the war now.
