  • 490 BCE a fleet of persians gathered 25,000 men and rode across the Aegeon and landed in Marathon. 10,000 Athenians waited for them. The persians wore light armor and lacked training in the land because they were trained in water combat. Persians lost 6,000 men and athens lost 200 men.
  • Battle of Thermopylae
  • 546 BCE the persians conquered the sea. Wars began in Ionia on the coast Anatonia. The Ionians revolt. Athens sends ships to supoort the revolt. They vow to destroy Athens in Revenge.
  • Battle of Platea
  • Pheidippides ran 26.2 miles from Marathon to Athens. He ran to tell the good news that Athens won the battle. Also that the Persians were coming to attack their city. Then he ramdonly dropped dead for unknown reasons. 
  • Effect of the War
  • This battle was fought between the alliance if the Greek city-states. It lasted three days during the second invasion of the persians. As a result the persians got the victory. 
  • Battle of Platea was the last land battle between Persians and Greeks. This was the second time that Persia invaded Greece. It took place near the city Platea and the Greeks won.
  • The affect of the war was that a large group of the persian fleet was destroyed. Meanwhile Greece became more powerful. Athenians build big beautiful building and statues as a a sign that they won and we still have them today.
