- The Virginia and Kentucky Resolution stated that states could reject federal law. this idea, called nullification, continued to cause conflicts.
- The Alien and Sedition Acts created powers for the president to force out for signers and arrest those who spoke out against the gov. federalists said that this was to protect American safety, Dem- Reps said it was to eliminate Dem- Reps votes.
- They were angry about Jay's treaty, France attacked and seized over 300 US ships. To control the crisis, Adams signed the Alien and Sedition Acts into law.
