- Battle of Shiloh April 6th, 1862
- Battle at Chattanooga Nov 23rd-25th 1863
- This Was General Grants first ever battle in the civil which would lead up to him being in more battles then eventfully leading to him being general of the army of the Potomac  
- Overland Campaign May 4th to June 12th 1864
- The battle started when Confederate Soldiers came out of the mist and started ambush on the union soldiers who were not expecting it would lead on and would go on to be the bloodiest battle of the war and the start of battles having lots of causality's    
- siege of Petersburg June 1864 - April 2nd 1865
- it was a battle for a important rail hub in Chattanooga and it was important to the south because they did not have many rail hubs so they needed all they could get because it could save time and energy for there troops and they could use them to transport supplies 
- Battle of Appomattox Court House April 3rd - 9th 1865
- the overland campaign is a campaign to capture Richmond which was the confederate capital and capturing the capital is like taking out the heart the campaign would not lead to the capture of Richmond 
- With the failure to capture Lee ´ s army in the overland campaign Grant decided to cut off enemy supplies and communications trapping Lee and his army
