  • Oh Pranav ! But we do use math in so many ways everyday!
  • Why don't you look around for today and tell me the uses of math in our daily life tomorrow?
  • Sir, what is the point of learning mathematics if we don't use it in life?
  • Ok!
  • Like what?
  • That is weird, I just solved my problem using math !
  •
  • If the game costs $27 and I take it as x and my allowance $5 is y then I need (x/y=z, 27/5=5.4) to save up for a little more than 6 weeks to buy the game!
  • Thanks mummy. I have 6 friends, so 7 people including me and I take it as x and if each person gets 3 slices that's y and a medium pizza has 8 slices that is z (xy/z=a, 7*3/8= 21/8= 2.65) and so, I need 3 pizzas.
  • Mummy, can I call my friends over ?
  • Well done, you just used maths !!
  • Sure, but since I am busy, you can order pizza.
  • One day during math class, when everyone was doing their classwork, Pranav asked his teacher how math was used in their Daily Life. Teacher replied saying that Math was used in many ways in our everyday life and told him to observe the ways in which it was used and tell him the next day. Pranav agreed.
  • So now I use (x/y)*a/b=c, where x=120 mins, y=20 mins, a= 30 mins and b=60 mins. So, (120/20)*30/60=3 hoursI need to study for 3 hours.
  • But, you need to study or exercise for 30 mins for 20 mins of game time.
  • That is correct!
  • When he gets home, he realises that the new video game part has been released, but it costs 27 dollars. He thinks to himself, unknowingly using math to solve him problem.
  • So, (1*7)/(.5*7)= 7/3.5, So, now I need 7 cups of water and 3.5 cups of mix !!
  • If the instruction says to use 1 cup of water for .5 cups of mix, and I have six friends, so 7 people, I have to use the formula x/y and multiply both by 7
  • Later in the afternoon, he asked his mother if he could invite her friends over for dinner. His mother agreed but said that he could not make the food as he was busy and told Pranav that he could order pizza. Pranav knew that 6 of her friends were coming over and used mathematics once again to calculate the number of pizzas required.
  • Sir was right! We do use maths so many times in our every lives !
  • But, his mother told Pranav that he had to read or exercise for 30 minutes for every 20 minutes of game time with his friends. Pranav again calculates the amount of time he would have to read or exercise to play a game for 2 hours.
  • Afterwards, when all his friends came over, Pranav decided to bake mini cakes using the mix that he had bought at the store. Again, he used math to solve her problem.
  • That night, while sleeping, Pranav taught about what his teacher told him in class.
