- Mulan lives with her father, mother and grandmother in the village. She dosen't fit the typical feminine ideal in her community, and is told she will bring dishonour to the family.
- A messenger from the Emporer arrives, anouncing that the Hans have invaded China. The messenger says that one man from each family must serve in the war. Mulan's father offers to go, but Mulan secretly takes his place out of concern for his safety.
- Return
- Mulan returns home after killing Shan Yu, and brings honour to her family.
