Storyboard Description
Who discovered Infrared radiation? William Herschel storyboard
Storyboard Text
This red light seems hotter than the other colors. I wonder why.
This red light seems hotter than the other colors. I wonder why.
William Herschel noticed that red light felt warmer than other colors of light.
Using a prism, Herschel spread the light into the different colors.
Using a thermometer, he measured the temperature of the different colors.
Infrared
He found it got hotter towards the red end of the spectrum.
He moved the thermometer just outside the red light and, to his surprise, he found the temperature on the thermometer increased even more.
He concluded that there must be some invisible radiation that we can't see.
