  • In the book ''Hatchet',' Brian Robeson is on his way to his dad's house for the summer. Brian was staring out the window of the plane and started thinking about a single word: divorce. Then, he started thinking about his parents and the ''secret.''
  • While Brian was looking out the window, he suddenly noticed a smell in the plane. He thought to himself, ''The pilot must have stomach troubles.'' Then, he noticed that the pilot was having pain that was driving him back into his seat. Brian realized the pilot was having a heart attack! After a few short minutes, the pilot's heart stopped.
  • After the pilot's heart stopped Brian had to fly the plane on his own. After a while Brian thought he had to crash the plane or let the engine run out. He chose to crash it. As Brian got lower and lower to the ground, he finally crashed. After he crashed, he spent the first few days building a shelter and tried to find food. Brian realized that there were fish in the lake. After Brian made a spear to catch the fish, and learned how to aim, he made fish his daily food. Brian realized that if he tried to kill a bird, he could have ''first meat''. Brian tried a couple of times but he kept missing. Then Brian looked at the bird carefully and realized, it looks like the shape of a pear. He tried another time, looked for the pear shape and.. he got it!. He finally got it. He cooked it over the fire and as he ate it he thought to himself, ''first meat''.
  • Brian awoke to a sudden noise, a sound that was low and came from the wind. He had felt the wind push him to the back of the shelter. It destroyed all of his tools and put his fire out. Then he thought ''Oh, no''. It was a tornado!
  • The next morning, after the tornado, Brian awoke to see that the tornado flipped the plane over. The tail was sticking out. Then Brian remembered the survival pack. "It must still be in the plane',' he thought. So, he made a raft out of wood and pushed it through the lake to the plane. As Brian got to the plane, he tried to get through the aluminum and then... he dropped the hatchet. He tried many times to grab it, but he couldn't. He tried one last time, swam as hard as he could, and he grabbed it.
  • After Brian got through the aluminum, he looked around the plane but didn't see the survival pack at first. But then he stepped on something, not thinking it was anything, then realized it was the survival pack! He grabbed it, got out of the water, and went back to the shelter. He looked through it and saw amazing things like packets of food, water, and a rifle. He also found an emergency transmitter. Brian put it out without knowing it would work because it had been in the water. A few minutes later an airplane arrived, landing in the L-shaped lake. When the pilot got out of the plane and realized it was Brian, he saved him.
