  • The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, On June 28 of 1914 led to the outbreak of the first World War. 
  • The sinking of the Lusitania that occurred on May 7, 1915 led to outrage, turning the public against Germany. 
  • "We make Mexico a proposal of alliance on the following basis: make war together, make peace together, generous financial support and an understanding"
  • The Western Union Telegram was a coded note sent by Germany's Foreign Minister, Arthur Zimmerman, during January of 1917 that said that if Germany went to war with the United States, Germany promised to help Mexico recover the territories they had lost in the 1840's. In other words, it proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico.

  • Occurring in 1917, the Russian Revolt took place during the final phase of World War 1. It marked the end of Russian Imperial Rule. The Russian Revolt happened because a great number of workers finally decided to strike. Overall, it removed Russia from the war and led to the replacement of Russia's traditional monarchy.

  • Woodrow Wilson's 14 points were recognized on January 8, 1918 during his speech on war aims and peace terms directed to the United States Congress. His intent was to create peace in hopes to end World War 1.
  • Signed on June 28 of 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was the most important of all peace treaties that contributed to the end of World War 1. Those responsible for the Treaty of Versailles were U.S. president Woodrow Wilson, French Premier Georges Clemenceau, and British Prime Minister David Lloyd George. Germany and the allied nations ended up signing this peace document, concluding the hatred between the two.
