- Castle Cranshaw(Ghost) is a 7th grader who lives with his mom in Glass Manor , a poor neighborhood in the city. When he was in 4th grade, his dad tried to shoot and kill him and his mom. They ran out of their home, and went to Mr. Charles store and hid there for the night.His dad was then sentenced to 10 years in prison. Castle is struggling with his feelings with his father.

- Ghost(Castle Cranshaw) is the main protagonist in the book Ghost. He lives on Glass manor,A poor neighborhood in the city, with his mom. He calls himself ghost(ghost is his nickname) because when he and mom ran to Mr. Charles store. He looked at them like 2 ghosts. He was shocked and stunned when he saw them run into the store. People also look at him the exact way Mr. Charles face looked like that night. He is also quiet and sad/angry like a ghost.

- Brandon Simmons is the antagonist in the story. He is tall and bullies people, specifically Ghost. One day, Brandon threw a drummy at ghost and said"Here take this. My good deed for the day. Feeding the hungry". After he said that, ghost threw a milk cartoon at him(missed). Then he grabbed his plastic tray and hit Brandon on the side of the head. Finally, he plowed his fists into his face.

- An external conflict in "Ghost" is how Castle(ghost) and his mom are poor. His mom is working on her nursing degree. She currently works at the hospitals cafeteria. People(especially Brandon) make fun of him for living on Glass Manor/being poor.
- Ghost was at a the track when he saw Coach and the other runners. When he saw Lu showing off and acting like he was the best runner ever, Ghost decided he was going to show everyone Lu was not that great. After coach saw how fast he can run, he asked Ghost if he wanted to join the team after practice. He said his mom won't approve. After some talking with his mom and coach, Ghosts mom approved. This was the first ghost was ever on a team. He practices every weekday except Friday with the defenders. He then steals some running shoes from Everything Sports.
- The climax of the story is when Coach found out ghost stole those shoes. When Coach was passing out jerseys to the team, he didn't give one to Ghost. Ghosts "jersey" was a picture of him stealing those shoes. When coach plans on telling his mom, he tells him he doesn't know what it's like to be him. Coach tells him that he grew up on Glass Manor. He also told him that he won a gold medal and how his father stole it to buy drugs. He finally tells him that if he steals anything again, he will be off the team and he will tell his mother. They later go back and buy the shoes.
