  • 1954 May 17 - Brown vs Board
  • 1955 - Bus Boycott Rosa Parks

  • On May 17th 1954, Brow vs Board was initiated, it was consolidated of five cases into one and was decided by the Supreme Court. It ended the racial segregation in public schools. However, many schools remained segregated.
  • 1957 - The Little Rock Nine
  • On December 1st 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus. By Rosa doing this, it influenced other Black-Americans to stand-up for themselves and fight for the cause.
  • 1960 - First Restaurant Sit-In
  • On September 9th 1957 President Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 in order to help protect voter rights. The law allowed the government to protect Black-Americans and protect their votes.
  • 1961 - The Freedom Riders
  • On September 4th 1957, nine black students known as the Little Rock Nine enrolled in Little Rock Central High School. However, they were originally blocked from the school until President Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort the students, however, they continued to be harassed.
  • Restaurant Sit-Ins were a popular method of campaigning among Black-Americans. This was a non-violent method of protest against segregation taught by Martin Luther King Jr. African-Americans, often students, quietly sat down in public places reserved for white people, and requested for service.
  • Throughout 1961, black and white activists, known as the freedom riders, took bus trips through the American South to protest against segregated bus terminals and attempted to use the Whites-Only restrooms and lunch counters. However, many white people protested violently against The Freedom Riders.
