Storyboard Text
- Most of the story Ashes of Roses is set in America, specifically New York City. The main character, Rose, arrives there on a boat from Ireland.

- Rose Nolan is an Irish immigrant with a lot of hope for her future in America. She's the oldest child in her family and is described as a 16-year-old Catholic girl with unusual blue eyes with a spark of excitement for her new home
- Early on, most of Rose's family is sent back to Ireland because her brother was sick. Rose and her younger sister Maureen have to find their way alone in the new and unfamiliar place.

- Rose and Maureen rent a room with the Garoff family, which was where the daughter, Gussela ("Gussie") told Rose she could get a job where she worked, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.
- Rose gets a job at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory with Gussie, where she meets her soon-to-be best friends: Rose Klein and Rose Bellini. They nickname themselves their last names.
- Nolan, Klein, Bellini, and Maureen go to the nickelodeon where Nolan sees her first moving picture. While they're there, Rose realizes that they are her best friends, and is looking forward to another day working with them.
