  • Gina's Story in StoryboardThat
  • Gina's life starts in Hospital:Gina's story made me cry because Gina came to the world with microcephaly. Gina was born on January 3, 2020, with a c-section. It was a pathetic situation that she was not breathing. Gina was a sick child, with low-set ears, droopy eyes, and microcephaly who was admitted into the NICU. She was tested with multiple syndromes like trisomy 13,18, 23, down syndrome, SLOS, etc. Gina was the baby who filled love in her mom's heart. I understand Gina's mothers' perspective about Special Education to think and make life more valuable and understandable. She can do everything for her daughter to give her a better world.
  • Gina's Growing up: Gina's growing up history is full of sorrow. Her early intervention saved her life. Her first 2 years of life were so complicated. She had a feeding tube placed through her mouth to her stomach. When she was 3-5 years, she learned to crawl up and down stairs without any support. Then Gina had a kid walk for walking training. She was able to eat food by herself. The doctors, nurses, teachers, and family members' support made her life easier. She had great family support, and she was able to express all of her feelings.
  • Gina's Education:At the age of 3, gina started her preschool a BOCES program. Then Gina had a new placement to participate in school programs that was designed for Gina's needs of mind. Gina made a great progress in Ms Kathy's class. However, Gina's educational journey was not easy. So the school established the anti bullying club and peer BUDDY program that showed positive outcomes in socialization and peer interactions for Gina. These programs made Gina an important part of the school. As an educator, I will be always focusing on how my students can do or develop their skills .
  • Gina's Outdoor: Gina had a lot of outdoor activity with her family members. She enjoyed swimming with Tom. She enjoyed the beach, adventureland, bubble bath, etc. It plays a crucial role for her to become more active with her activities. The outdoor activities make her feel to be part of the environment.
  • Parents' voices
  • Another way a teacher can connect with Gina's parent with phone call or using social media like facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. So parents can share their voices and make sure their children are in comfort.
  • As a teacher, it is very important to involve parents for their child's education. Parents and teachers should be more cooperative for the information of the child especially in the situation like Gina. So we can connect in person like parent teacher conferences. The teacher can arrange monthly or quarterly meetings for Gina to share her parents voice to the school.
  • Some other ways Gina's parents can share their voices are having an email address and they can write their necessary talking that is regularly checked by the teacher. The teacher can use some apps like ClassDoJo, GroupMe, Voicethread to share their voices and update the information.
  • As a teacher, I can also make a progress sheet or communicator sheet and use it as a daily basis to pass information to Gina's parents. I can put the sheet to Gina's keep home folder, so her parents can check and write back her message (voices) to communicate easily.
  • Finally, I will make sure that Gina's parents are comfortable to share their voices at any time if they have any concerns. Parents should be aware that their voices are crucial for their child.
