Between 1815 and 1850 more than 800 000 immigrants migrated to Canada from England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
In 1847 Ireland suffered from a terrible famine. The potato crop had failed and many were left starving.
We have no more food!
Another bad one.
In Britain, jobs were scarce due to an economic shutdown because of the end of Napoleonic Wars.

The trip to Canada was about 2 months long. Thousands died from diseases such as typhus on the boats, the boats were often called coffin ships.
Once they reached Canada they travelled inland by boat and wagons. They had to clear land in order to build a home and make a living
