  • Conflict Mismanagement is strategies that are interpreted as unfair, unjust, and incorrect. These strategies include, avoidance, non-negotiation, deflecting, acting, beguiling, rejection, force, blame, devaluation and unloading. In this film, we will be displaying two ineffective strategies and two effective strategies.
  • Explanation
  • What could be done to improve the situation?
  • Ineffective and effective communication are two distinct forms of a conversation and determine whether the conversation is classified as successful. Effective communication is the opposing style to ineffective, revealed when both parties are utilising verbal and non-verbal features to communicate and avoiding/de-escalating conflict through management. Ineffective communication typically involves conflict mismanagement, where one or multiple parties escalate conflict through aiming mismanagement techniques to one another, such as deflecting orunloading.
  • Effective Example 1: Deflecting
  • In this example, ineffective communication is clearly communicated through the technique of deflection.
  • Ineffective Example 2: Unloading
  • What could be done to improve the situation? In the first skit, Sienna is trying to talk to Jasmin about something to do with their English assignment. However, Jasmin keeps avoiding the conversation and instead keeps either walking away from Sienna or changing the subject. This is called deflecting, as Jasmin continuously avoids the conversation. Alternatively, Jasmin should just sit down and listen to what Sienna has to say, this is displayed in the effective communication example. It is better for both Sienna and Jasmin if the issue is just out in the open. That way they can work towards fixing it together.
  • In this example, effective communication is efficiently communicated through an alternative option being demonstrated and deflection not being present.
  • In this example, ineffective communication is revealed through the technique of unloading.
