- There was a schoolmaster named Ichabod Crane who lived in a quiet, haunting town called Sleepy Hollow. He was very skinny and actually looked like a crane! Brom Bones also lived in Sleepy Hollow. He was a jokester, and he was the most popular and strong person in Sleepy Hollow. They both wanted to marry someone named Katrina Van Tassel.
- Climax
- Ichabod Crane wanted to marry Katrina Van Tassel because she had a lot of money, so he began to woo her. Brom Bones also tried to woo her because he wanted to marry her, too, although not because she had a lot of money.
- Falling Action
- Katrina Van Tassel had a party and invited Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane. Ichabod Crane and the other people at the party told stories, especially ghost stories. After the party was over, Ichabod Crane stayed for a little longer to talk to Katrina Van Tassel but was rejected by her.
- Resolution
- It wasn't a very good idea to stay at Katrina Van Tassel's house for that much longer, because when Ichabod Crane left, it was dark and he was chased by the headless horseman! Ichabod Crane tried to outrun the headless horseman, but the headless horseman threw a pumpkin at Ichabod Crane and knocked him off of his horse!
- After Ichabod Crane was hit, the headless horseman and Gunpowder, the horse that Ichabod Crane was riding, sped off. Ichabod Crane was never found after that.
- Ichabod Crane never returned to Sleepy Hollow, and many people wondered where he went.
