- Refusal to the Call
- Coraline was an ordinary girl who lived in a ordinary house. She had lots of friends in her neighbourhood and loved her life.
- Meeting with the Mentor
- Coraline's parents leave for a flower fair and tell Coraline to explore the house. To Coraline's surprise she finds a hidden door in the wall.
- Crossing the First Threshold
- Coraline is aware of the door when her new neighbour Mr Bobinsky tells her about it. Mr Bobinsky's mouse had told him not to go through that door. Coraline's other neighbour, Mrs Spinks also warned her about the door when she spied danger in her tea leaves.
- Tests, Allies and Enemies
- Coraline enters the door and meets up with the black cat Wybie, who tells her that everything is not what it seems.
- Coraline follows the mice back to the tiny door where the door is no longer bricked up.
- As the story continued on, Coraline gained allies which her father continued to warn her about. As time goes on Coraline finds out that her other mother is trying to sew buttons on her eyes so that she can eat Coraline.
