- The city of Thebes is held under a curse until the old kings murderer is brought to justice. Oedipus rex, the new king and husband to the queen volunteers to find the culprit and bring him to justice. It is reported the old king died by the hands of highwaymen.

- Oedipus attempts to find the truth through the blind prophet Teiresis, but the prophet refuses to tell him.
