  • THE BONY BODY
  • You have more than 200 bones in your body; 206 to be exact! These bones make up your skeleton and act as the supporting structure that allows you to run, jump and play!
  • You also have two different types of bone: cortical and trabecular bone. Cortical bone is dense and hard, while trabecular bone is softer and spongy.
  • Bones are also natural healers. When you fracture a bone, your body will go to work producing new bone cells and help heal the break.
  • FINISH!
  • Your smallest bone is the stapes, which allows you to hear.
  • Your largest bone is the femur in your leg which can carry up to 6,000 pounds!
  • Your bones are tough but your teeth are stronger! Enamel covers your teeth and protects the delicate nerves and tissue inside them. Inch for inch, your teeth can take more wear and tear than any of your other bones.
  • Bones lose strength over time. Keeping them strong requires eating calcium-rich foods like dairy products, broccoli, and some fish. Exercise, especially weight-bearing exercise, helps keep bones strong, too.
