Storyboard Text

  • Ashoka was the grandson of the founder of the Mauryan Empire, which Ashoka now ruled. He was very set on forcefully trying to expand his kingdom.
  • Ashoka then looked at how much destruction and bloodshed he had caused. He looked and saw a peaceful Buddhist monk meditating. 
  • Ashoka saw how peaceful the monk was and knew that he wanted to be like that too. Ashoka converted to Buddhism.
  • Ashoka then stopped all fighting and made peace in his empire and encouraged other people in his kingdom to become Buddhist, yet he still allowed freedom of religion.
  • Ashoka had Buddhist temple and stupas built in his empire. He treated everyone equally no matter what and continued to live a peaceful Buddhist life and knew that all humans were sacred.
  • When Ashoka died in 238 BCE, the Mauryan Empire fell, but his impact on people was huge and he helped many people convert to Buddhism and helped spread the religion.
