  • In 1803, Robert Livingston and James Monroes made a deal with France to buy the Louisiana colony for $15,000,000. This deal was treated like a treaty and was approved by congress once word had traveled across the ocean.

  • The Alamo(1836)

  • The've got us surrounded!

  • In 1846, Oregon was purchased from Britain by the United States. Because of that, lots of settlers traveled to Oregon to make settlements.
  • This event was significant for the U.S. because the land they got would almost double the country in size, increasing the amount of crops that could be produced and the amount of people that could live there. This event was also significant for the Native American tribes living in the Louisiana area because they kept having to move out of the way for the Americans, which would eventually lead to the Indian Wars.
  • Oregon Trail(1846)
  • This event was significant to the Texans because it would give them something to remember and to fight for when struggling for independence. This event was significant to the Mexicans(specifically Santa Anna) because Santa Anna would become overconfident and split up his army, which would lead to his army and himself being captured.
  • Rio Grande & Nueces River Gunfight(1846)
  • Mexico and America had two different ideas of where their border line should be. America said it should be at the Rio Grande River, but Mexico said it should be at the Nueces River. To protect the border, a group of American soldiers were given the task to travel to the area between the two rivers, and to fight off Mexicans that would come their way. On April 25, 1846, a group of Mexican soldiers attacked an American unit. The Mexicans killed 16 soldiers, injured 5 soldiers, and took 50 soldiers prisoner.
  • This was significant for the Native Americans because they would permanently lose their homes, which would take away what little power they had over the settlers. This event was significant for the U.S., because they would gain land that would be able to farm and make money for the country, therefore making America more rich.
  • Massacre at Wounded Knee(1890)
  • On December 29, 1890, the U.S. 7th cavalry Regimen, while trying to disarm them, opened fire on a Sioux settlement near Wounded Knee Creek. They killed almost every single Sioux in the camp, including women and children.
  • This event is also significant to Native Americans because the white settlers would trick Native Americans into signing treaties that forced them onto small reservations, which would strip them of their sacred lands. This event is significant to America because this sale would gain them enough land to eventually be more powerful than Britain.
  • This event was significant for the Americans because it started a war that would eventually end with America gaining a large amount of land, which made America more powerful. This event was significant for the Native Americans because it was their land that was won in the war, and it would now be overrun by settlers looking for gold, who would most likely attack the Natives and force them to leave their land.
  • AAARRRGH!!!
  • This event is significant to Native Americans because it was the beginning of the end of the Indian Wars, which would strip Native Americans of their lands and traditions. This event is significant to the U.S. because it marks the end of the era where the main problem of America was trying to clear the country of other peoples.
