  • First Step of Photosynthesis
  • Second Step of Photosynthesis
  • Third Step of Photosynthesis
  • First, the plant absorbs the sun's energy by the chlorophyll in leaves. We use the energy to make a sugar called glucose. Glucose is the main source of nutrition for plants.
  • Fourth Step of Photosynthesis
  • Next, the plant drinks water from the ground. The water goes through it's roots and the water transports to the leaves from tissue called xylem.
  • Fifth Step of Photosynthesis
  • After that, leaves collect carbon dioxide from the air through openings in the leaves. This is called stomata.
  • Sixth Step of Photosynthesis
  • Next, the water and carbon dioxide span through the leaves and into cells. In these cells, there are chloroplasts which have a pigment called chlorophyll.
  • Then, the chlorophyll traps energy from the sun and uses it as chemical energy. This energy splits the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen atoms. This is also used to make glucose.
  • Finally, the glucose dissolves into more water to give the plant extra energy. The oxygen is released as a wasted product, so that is why plants are very important to the environment because plants get rid of all of the bad air and pollution. For example, we breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. But plants on the other hand, are the other way around.
