  • Plant Cell
  • Chemical Equation:
  • C6H12O6 + 6O2→6CO2 + 6H20 + Chemical Energy
  • CellularRespiration
  • AnimalCell
  • Stages in Cellular Respiration
  • ATP, NADH, and Pyruvate
  • Stage 1. Glycolysis
  • Energy
  • Cellular respiration is a process where glucose is broken down for energy. The reactants are glucose, and oxygen, and the products are carbon dioxide, water, and chemical energy (in ATP).
  • C3H4O3 (Pyruvate)
  • Stage 2. Krebs Cycle
  • Energy
  • Cellular respiration occurs in all organisms. That means both plants (autotrophs) and animals (hetertrophs). All of us need it to function.
  • Energy
  • Stage 3. Electron Transport Chain
  • NADH, FADH2, O2
  • Glycolysis is the first stage in cellular respiration. It occurs in cytoplasms and 2 ATP are made.
  • Mitochondria(the powerhouse cell)
  • Krebs cycle, also known as the citric acid cycle, is the second stage in cellular respiration. It occurs in the matrix of mitochondria and 2 ATP are made.
  • Cytoplasm
  • CO2, NADH, FADH2, ATP
  • Electron transport chain (ECT) is the third stage in cellular respiration. It occurs in the inner membrane of mitochondria and 34 ATP are made.
  • ATP and H2O
  • Cytoplasm
  • The reactions of cellular respiration do start in cytoplasm but most of it occurs in mitochondrion. That is why it is called the powerhouse cell and cellular respiration wouldn't be possible without it.
